Independence Middle School Reviews

I was a 7th grade student at IMS and I would say that it is a very good school overall. They offer some courses like keyboarding, which I took and am now a great typer, that other schools do not. The school seems to be a head of all the other schools at times and I liked it that way just fine.

I've Been Attending IMS for three years.Im currently an 8th grader. IMS overall is a good school. They encourage you to get involved, whether it's in Sports or Academic teams. As the treasurer of the school Im telling you this year and the years to follow will better at IMS, with our new Principal Mrs.Woodhouse. She is setting the goals high this year and she is making us students strive for the best and for us to be the best. IMS has great opportunities in their academics they provide classes from advanced english all the way to geometry. Most of the staff are caring and will always be there for you. So im telling you if your son or daughter is comming to IMS it's going to be a great experience. I have to say Im going to be sad that Im leaving but once an eagle always an eagle.

Ms Woodhouse seems caring and concerned about the students. 8th grade principal is at the opposite end of the spectrum.

Mrs Peebles was the principle last year here's hoping she is better than this year. Discipline is sorely lacking, as is professionalism amonth the guidance staff.

You know what, I've been to this school for 3 years and it's been freekin' awsome! our sports teams rock, the teachers are cool, and most of the faculty is friendly. I have gotten straight A's for all 3 years and I have met so many wonderful friends and I am so sad that I will be leaving this school next month.

My daughter is an A student, very involved with sports and academic programs. Mr. Lawrence is great! Encourages the kids to get involved. If your child gets involved with the kids that want to excel and better themselves, they do just fine. The teachers do the job they are suppose to. At this age, kids know what is expected of them. Some just choose to do whatever they want. If it's education related, by all means look for help though Ms. Peebles. No School is perfect! Anywhere!

Independence used to be a good school with an excellent reputation, however it has deteriorated tremendously. It is now unsafe, mismanaged, and the the education provided is inferior. The leadership rarely communicate with parents or provide necessary feedback. This school needs an overhaul.

I, too, have been sorely disappointed by IMS. There is truly a communication problem at this school. I was initially concerned when in September the administrative office had no information @ a PTA sponsored program. I also waited 3 weeks for a return call from the PTA representative. We have also experienced issues with fighting at the school. It took 9 days for the Student Resource Officer, a dedicated in-school officer, to return our calls. We are currently researching other options.

I am very pleased with this school. My daughter has attended this school since sixth grade and she's now in the seventh.Whenever I have attended a school function or encounter meeting someone in the faculty they were all kind. My daughter has remained an Honor Roll student since sixth grade.Anytime I have called or emailed teachers they responded very quickly usually the same day. I like this school and plan for my daughter to complete eight grade here as well.Mrs. Peebles the principal is always on point whenever I come to the school.I am confident my child is safe, as anything can happen anywhere but I feel this school take percussions as any other to maintain a safe environment.

No communication from administration and teachers. Safety is a concern. My son has been beaten on twice since school started in September. He is unhappy. I'm not sure if I will keep him here for another two years.
